1. General Provisions
1.1. Povolzhskiy Journal of Ecology is issued quarterly and publishes original papers that are the result of environmental research, short communications and reviews, as well as chronicles and information in both Russian and English. Published materials and materials submitted for publication in other journals are not accepted for consideration. Manuscripts containing elements of plagiarism or self-plagiarism are automatically rejected.
1.2. Full papers are accepted on 16 pages and may contain up to 5 figures and 4 tables, short communications are restricted to 6 pages and 2 figures. Tables should not occupy more than 20% of the total volume of the manuscript.
1.3. Any manuscript should be written concisely, carefully designed and thoroughly edited.
1.4. To publish a paper, the author must submit the following materials and documents:
- an accompanying letter from the organization (in 1 copy);
- a manuscript signed by the authors, including a summary (a brief statement of the subject of research, results and conclusions) in both Russian and English, tables, figures and captions to them (in 2 copies);
- information about the authors: name, patronymic and surname, position, academic degree and scientific title, ORCID code, office addresses and telephone numbers, faxes and email addresses indicating the corresponding author (correspondence with the editorial office in both Russian and English). No abbreviations for institutions are permitted.
All co-authors are responsible for the information presented in their manuscript.
No fee for the publication of manuscripts is charged.
1.5. Within 2 weeks from the date of receipt of the manuscript, the authors are sent a notification of its receipt with the date of receipt and the registration number of the manuscript.
1.6. Manuscripts submitted are subject to review and, in the case of a positive review, to scientific and control editing. Reviews of manuscripts accepted for publication are e-mailed to the authors, whilst reviews of rejected articles are sent in writing. The editorial office has the right not to enter into correspondence with the author regarding the reasons (grounds) for the refusal to publish his/her manuscript.
1.7. The manuscript sent to the author for revision should be returned in corrected form (in 2 copies) together with its original version as soon as possible. The revised manuscript should be accompanied by a letter from the authors, containing answers to all reviewer comments and explaining all the changes made in the manuscript. A manuscript delayed for more than three months or requiring re-revision is considered as re-submitted.
The published paper will contain the initial date of receipt of the manuscript by the editor and the date of adoption of the manuscript after revision.
2. Structure of publications
2.1. A full-text paper and a short communication begins with the UDC index (left), followed by the title of the paper, the initials and the names of the authors, the full official name of their institution and its postal address with a zip-code. The following is the date the manuscript arrived at the editorial office, and then a summary (the name and surname of the author should be indicated in the transcription accepted by him/her) of 200 – 240 words and keywords in both Russian and English. Keywords can be taken from the title of the manuscript. For example:
UDC 598.115.31(470.44/.47)

2.2. The editorial board recommends authors to structure the submitted manuscript using the following subtitles: INTRODUCTION (the essence of the research is formulated, the current state of the problem is briefly discussed, the goal and the corresponding research objectives are set), MATERIAL AND METHODS (the material underlying the manuscript is described, its quantity, time and collection methods in detail, but in a concise form for field research or methods of a field or laboratory experiment), RESULTS AND DISCUSSION (the obtained scientific results are given and their discussion is held), CONCLUSION (a summary of the results obtained and conclusions are made), ACKNOWLEDGMENTS (thanks to colleagues who helped in collecting the material or who gave valuable advice or consultations, as well as sources of funding), BIBLIOGRAPHY.
3. Requirements for manuscripts
3.1. The text of a manuscript should be printed out in one and a half intervals on white A4 paper with margins of at least 2.5 cm, font size 14.
3.2. All pages of the manuscript, including tables, figures, and references, should be numbered. When preparing a manuscript, one should observe uniformity of terms. Uniformity in notation, unit systems, and nomenclature should also be observed. As far as possible, abbreviations should be avoided, except for commonly used ones, and if some abbreviation is still used, it should be explained in the text at its first mention.
3.3. The title should clearly reflect the content of the manuscript (no more than 15 words). If the manuscript is devoted to one or several species, the Latin names of the species in question are obligatory in the title. Higher taxa (mainly the names of the class or family of the objects of study) should also be indicated in parentheses.
There is always a space between the initials and the last name, e.g.: A.A. Ivanov. Do not use more than one space between words and a tab in place of the indent in the first line of a paragraph. Decimal digits are typed only through a dot, not comma (0.50 rather than 0,50). Only angular quotes are used.
3.4. The first mention of any organism name must be accompanied by a full scientific (Latin) name indicating the author (full name) and year of publication, for example, Otis tarda Linnaeus, 1758; the next time the author is mentioned, the surname of the author and the year are not given, and the genus name is given in abbreviated form (O. tarda). Only generally accepted abbreviations are permitted, i.e. the names of measures, physical, chemical and mathematical quantities and terms, etc. All abbreviations must be explained, with the exception of a small number of commonly used ones. Abbreviations of several words are separated by spaces (e.g. 760 mm Hg, m. s. l.), with the exception of the most commonly used ones: etc., NL (North latitude), EL (East longitude).
3.5. All physical quantities must be given in the International System (SI). Units are separated from the number by a space (10 kPa), except degrees, percent, pro mille: 10°, 10°C, 10%, 10‰. When enumeration, as well as in numerical ranges, the dimension is given only for the last number (1 – 10°C, 1 – 10°).
3.6. Tables should be presented separately from the text, on A4 sheets. Multipage tables should be avoided; it is preferable to distribute large data among several tables. Each table should be numbered in Arabic numerals and have a thematic title to briefly reveal its content. Column headings should be as concise and informative as possible. The units of measurement in the head or side of a table are indicated after a comma. Primary digital data (not processed statistically), as a rule, are not published. Diagrams and plots should not duplicate the contents of the tables. If the table in the manuscript is the only one, it is not numbered.
3.7. Figures are attached separately (in 2 copies). The format of the figure should ensure the clarity of delivering all details. The caption must be self-sufficient without appealing to the text. If an illustration contains additional symbols, they should be explained after the caption. On the reverse side of the figure, indicate its number, the first author’s surname, mark, if necessary, “top” and “bottom”. When referring to a figure in the text, an abbreviation is used (Fig. 1), except for the cases when the figure is single (Figure). When repeated references, “see” is written (see Fig. 1, see Figure).
3.8. Halftone photos must be of high quality and presented on white glossy paper (in 2 copies), Xerox copies are not accepted.
3.9. The list of references (bibliography) should be designed in accordance with GOST R 7.0.7.2009 “Papers in journals and collected books. Appearance for publishing" and GOST R 7.0.5–2008 "Bibliographical citation. General requirements and rules of drafting”. Works cited in the text are arranged in alphabetical order, by the surnames of the authors. First, works are given in Russian and in the languages with a close alphabet (Bulgarian, Belarusian, Ukrainian, etc.), then in foreign languages. The bibliography of foreign works should preserve the original writing adopted in this language. Missing letters or their elements may be drawn with a pen (for example, Ukrainian і, ї, є, etc.). The works by the same author are listed in chronological order. Only generally accepted abbreviations are allowed.
In the text of the manuscript, cited works are indicated in parentheses, the name of the author of the work and the year of its publication are given, for example: (Pavlov, 1976), K. David (David, 2001); two authors (Timofeev-Resovsky, Tyuryukanov, 1966; Skira, Brothers, 2000); if there are more than two authors (Shlyakhtin et al., 2005; Brown et al., 1941).
References to theses and their abstracts are not welcome, conference abstracts and proceedings should be given to a minimum; the authors are wished to avoid outdated sources and to focus on current research presented in peer-reviewed publications. References to unpublished works and papers in print are not permitted. All works cited in the manuscript should be indicated in the list of references. In the list of references, the initials are put after the authors' surnames and separated by spaces between them, and are typed in italics: Chumakov A. A. Year, volume, journal number, etc. are separated from each other and separated from the corresponding numbers by spaces: 2002. Vol. 1, No. 1. P. 30, or: 2002. Vol. 1, № 1. P. 30. Numbers are designated by № rather than by the letter N. The bibliographic description is given in the following order.
