"Povolzhskiy Journal of Ecology" was founded in 2002 and was registered in the Federal Service for Supervision in the Sphere of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Mass Communications (Roskomnadzor) (the registration certificate of mass media PI No. FS77-23682 dated March 16, 2006). In 2003, the journal was granted the international registration number ISSN 1684-7318.

The editorial board of the journal includes 19 specialists representing the leading scientific centers of Russian Federation, as well as Bulgaria, Germany, Israel, and South Africa.

Since 2001, by the decision of the Higher Attestation Commission of the Ministry of Education of Russian Federation, "Povolzhskiy Journal of Ecology" is regularly included into the “List of periodical scientific and technical publications issued in the Russian Federation, which publication of the main results of dissertations for the degree of Doctor of Science are recommended in.
